Big Mess After Flood

THE FLOODING NOW - BIG MESS!!

The water has receded for now, thank goodness!!  What a mess was left though.  The debris piled up against the fence, washed dirt away from the bottom of the fence making the play yard un-usable until the holes can be fixed.  And yucky mud in all the dog houses and pens.  All in all, we were lucky not to have lost any fencing that is on the cement where most of the dogs are housed in better times.  The pens in the play yard got the worst of it and maybe can be fixed.  Maybe, maybe not.

Lots of work is ahead to make things right again.  We learned a lot along the way on this one, too. We learned that more stuff needs to be placed on higher ground if we know there is a chance of water rising.  We learned to try and have more crates available if possible, as there are just not enough pens inside for all the dogs.  We learned that if we are going to have the outside pens usable in all kinds of weather, it will take a lot of thought and work on how to get it done right.

Flood Aftermath

After seeing the shelter after the flood, we see a desperate need for a much bigger and safer building to house the dogs. To have them that close to an at risk creek without proper shelter just way too much stress and danger for all involved, critters and caretakers. Here's hoping that the city will do the right thing and work with Debbie on making the shelter a safe and sane place for all concerned. Debbie and her volunteers do such an outstanding job, the city should be helping make a difference!! The Corning Shelter could set an example for other small communities to follow.
