Second Chance Pet Rescue

Second Chance Pet Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue organization in Tehama County, California. We work with the Corning Animal Shelter/Animal Control, which is a part of the Corning Police Department. Our goal is to prevent the euthanasia of the adoptable animals finding themselves at the shelter and give them a second chance at life. Also, we support spay/neuter, education, and training in order to keep animals OUT of the shelter. Our hope for all companion animals is that they can live in the homes and by their handler's side as much as possible.

Our old play yard was made with farm pallets nailed together. The dogs enjoy their time outside but the yard was not secure and the fence was only 4 feet tall. We received a generous grant to give the dogs in our Pit Bull Promenade Showcase a larger and more secure area. Reconstruction of the play yard at the Corning Animal Shelter was made possible in part by a grant from Animal Farm Foundation, Inc. CGC testing . Second Chance is now offering the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen Award(CGC) The CGC evaluation is offered to all mixed and pure breeds as well as neuter/spayed or intact dogs. Corning Shelter dog yearly adoptions are up over tens times since May 2002, when Second Chance’s volunteer staff took over the care and adoptions of the Corning Shelter dogs. That’s over 150 dogs in 2003 saved from euthanasia that are alive and placed in a new home!!!
We temperament test all of the dogs coming into the shelter and strive to match up the perfect dog for your family. In addition to cherished family dogs, when potential “working” candidates come through the shelter, we help direct them to training in canine careers such as search and rescue, detection, hearing dogs and so forth. We want to build and enhance the bonds we have with nature's creatures in general, and pets in specific.

We are a 501-3C organization and your cash donations and "wish list" items are tax deductible as well as greatly appreciated!!! You can also volunteer with fostering a dog or other important jobs like cleaning, transporting supplies or fundraising. Support and practice Spay & Neutering and Dog Training

Shelter visits are possible with advance notice in the evening and weekends. We have an onsite resident caretaker who will gladly accommodate your schedule and show you the marvelous dogs waiting for new homes. The caretaker is knowledgeable about all the dogs and can match up the perfect pet for your family.
