What a gruesome title for our very first blog. But, in a shelter, we look at life and death every day. Sometimes it's planned death, sometimes it's humane death. Regardless, death is death, and we never take it lightly. We don't kill to make room. Sherlock came in with his sister. Both had entropia (eyelashes growing so they touch the eyeball with every blink -- OW!!) So, off to the vet they both went to get repaired. Little girl Harlow had only one set of eyelashes that needed reconstruction. Sherlock was another story. When the vet called me to tell me that Sherlock required the upper and lower lids of both eyes repaired at the cost of $500 I thought "Damn, that's 5 dogs we could help. We don't have the money." I told the vet that we would opt to euthanize. Then he said, "Well, the dog is already on the table." "Double damn" I thought. "Do the surgery," were my next words. So, a dog who almost was killed because of the cost of his care is now alive. Will he get adopted? Let's hope so. Otherwise, he's got 5 other dogs to answer to.

Weaver Medical Fund
This blog is why I will be giving to the "Weaver Medical Fund".
Wow, what a story.
Wow, what a story. I'm so happy to hear the dog did not die due to a dollar amount. It must be so hard to have to make this decision on who lives and who dies. I try and send as much money as I can to help these homeless dogs. Every spare dollar I have goes to save these dogs. Keep up the good work Debbie.
Great Story!
Great first story.
